Here is my nifty web page; no bells, no whistles: http://twoplayfulotters.com/students/rmcilvenny.html . I would describe this project as nostalgic. Many years ago I did this same exact thing. The difference between then and now is that I dont have any pressure on me. You see, then, I wanted my site to be the biggest and best site ever but when it came down to the nitty-gritty it was never much better than this because of the lack of Web 2.0. Even if I used 3rd party software to assist me, such as Frontpage, or Dreamweaver, which did allow me to incorporate entry boxes or database search engines, I really had zero content to present. For this assignment, I decided to just write about how bland I new it was going to look. I cant say there was anything surprising or difficult. I got this done in about 15 minutes but I'm not complaining, it was fun! As much as I already know about computers and technology, I will be honest and say, I had no idea that there was a difference between the Internet and the Web. Additionally, I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around this information. So, for the sake of understanding for myself and for this assignment, I will try to explain it to myself and to you.
The Internet is is the connection between all the servers and computers that make up the Internet. I view this as a highway; or, Information Super Highway. The WWW on the other hand is all the protocols that allow information to be accessed from these computers. I see this as the vehicle. The Web is USED to access the Internet. The kicker is, email does not use the Web; it uses the Internet. This means that SMTP is an independent vehicle from the Web. Very fascinating!

Hi, Rory:
I'm glad you enjoyed the blast from the past. It was an intentionally easy assignment because it was really about how easy it is to post information on the WWW and remember this class is about evaluating information so it's just a last reminder to be wary of what you find on the web.
Enjoy the rest of the week, I'll post the information about the final on Sunday afternoon and answer any questions you have at that point.
