Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday Blog! You better be grateful because I'm not going to give you another one. Well, I just got to an acceptable stage in customizing my blog space; I think it is safe to start posting on it now.
First off, I never even knew blogger.com existed, so that would be the first thing I learned. As far as the technology or the coding goes, there was no surprises there. I wasn't happy with the stock text heading that blogger gave me, I wanted a personalized logo. For this, I spent some time in Photoshop layering a picture that's area would be 25% transparent so that when it lays over the background (also created in Photoshop), no edge seems would show through. Way back in the day, this would be done by making use of the GIF format. This format is only acceptable visually on the web in the form of cheap advertizement banners or choppy avatar animations these day, I needed a format more current. I went with PNG. Yeah, laugh it up, its new to me. This format worked out great! I am just wonder how this all will look over different browsers. After placing the logo, I slapped a rugged picture of myself up here.
To answer the last few question I have here, i think the difference between the digital workspace and the analogue type is I am talking to you. If I was just writing in a book to myself, it would be, well, to myself. But here, I am almost performing on a stage. There could be no one reading this, one person reading this, or even thousands of people in the future reading this. I am writing to be read. This is not a disposable rant scribbled deep in the back of a little secret book that will be buried among heaps of antiques discarded in a lonely stale attic waiting to be discovered a century later after I am dead and gone and could care less who reads my writing anyway. There is a big difference there. Performing with Van Halen on stage in front of 50,000 people, or singing to myself "Running With the Devil" in the closet with ear buds in. I like the cyber crowd myself. When I first signed up for a Facebook account, I was very hesitant to make a post (after I developed a healthy list of freinds, of course). It wasn't too long after that though, I was in the swing of it, and cyber speaking became, fun(?). Now I do it all the time. Ok, bed time now, see me next time!

Wow, Rory:
You are obviously more advanced in computers that me and I applaud your ingenuity. I will say the dark background is a bit tough on my eyes. But the rugged picture is a keeper! I looked at it in Firefox and Safari and it reads just fine.
Thanks for your thoughts, you point out an important difference, one of audience. It's an astute observation and one to keep in mind when creating and "living" online. Unless you share this with your friends, it will be looked at just by me as a class assignment.
Have a good weekend,
Andrea
