I noticed right away that Summit has all the of the same publications I found at Cannell. Summit's search results contained small avatar thumbnails of the book cover which help with quick source judging (yes I know the saying, but you cant read them all!). Cannell has eBooks that I could read right here and now. I didn't see this option with Summit.  After using both of these resources, I am kicking myself for not knowing/ using then sooner.

        IT PRO

It Pro is absolutely awesome!  In 3 minutes I found information on how to swifly network my computers, reconfigure my EMU 1820 soundcard, and gain some new Photoshop techniques. I ran all of these searchs as phrases contained in the parent topic "Home PC." By switching the drop down menu to "full text," I could rest assured I wasn't going to get my heart broken. For information on my soundcard, I changed the drop down menu to "does NOT contain" and imputed "soundblaster." Even though this is the parent company, I didn't want info on their lower models. I rearranged the copyright years for the Photoshop books. By estimation, I could cut out all books on Photoshop versions below or above a cutoff. When I searched sound recording I changed the far right dropdown to "exact phrase."With this I got a myriad of sound recording resources. This is a very useful site!

Nice work. I hope that using Cannell/Summit might give you a bit warmer feelings about the library and IT Pro shows great specific information for your needs as well as current computing manuals. You can see ebooks in Summit but you cannot view them unless Clark has them, if you are willing to to to the school that has the ebook you should be able to use it in their library.

You are obviously well versed in evaluating materials and have a good strategy and explain the important elements. While viewing entire books on Google books is great, you can also sometimes find preview/snippet views and then request the full book from your library via Interlibrary loan, though that is not instantaneous but still a resource to keep in mind.

One thing to keep in mind, you can use the subject headings for cross referencing and use the subject headings in Summit to find similar items. So figuring out your most useful subject heading can be a great way into the research.

    Thanks,
    Andrea
